On the inside of the lid of this box it says it was manufactured by L. S. Lee of Colorado. The
pamphlet along with it is from Gibson Art Company of Ohio. This is a nice little wood set with unique designs. The face of the tiles is painted with an ivory color and then the designs are printed on top. The tiles are wood and not finished on the back. There is a wood Mingg jar with coin type (metal) wind disks. The wind disks are stamped with the letters NEWS (or if you prefer ESWN), there are
no Chinese characters on the disks. There are wooden betting sticks (squared not round) and a pair of dice. The box is covered with oilcloth, the design on the top is four men sitting around a table playing Mah Jong.
The tiles measure 1 1/4" x 15/16" x 7/16". The box measures 9 1/8" x 5 3/4" x 3 3/4". The
pamphlet with this set measures 7 " x 5 1/2", it has 4 pages and is copyright 1924 by Gibson Art Company. I am not sure that this
pamphlet goes with this set or if it was added later. |
