If you haven't seen one of these I only hope I have captured the essence in the pictures and scans. The Ming Ma Jong set is wood with a thin celluloid piece that slides into little
grooves. The shape is very interesting, the face is concave which protects the celluloid from being scuffed during play. The little
groove is fragile though, so if you happen to win one on eBay, be sure to ask the seller to pack it carefully. This is a typical cardboard box, four trays for tiles and one for betting sticks and accessories. By the way, these accessories do vary, sometimes there are dice or Mingg jars and sometimes not.
There is a great little book with this set too, "The Green Book" with another great dragon design on the front. It says " Written and revised especially for The Ming Set" on the bottom of the front cover, inside the copyright was applied for by Ralph J. F. Gerstle and it was printed by M.M. Bear Co. of Chicago.
There are 144 wood tiles with celluloid faces, betting sticks, Mingg Jar, dice and the booklet. This set is similar to a Hillson set.
The tiles measure 1 1/4" x 13/16" x 1/2", the designs are lightly carved and hand painted. The box measures 8 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 3 3/8". The book measures 7 1/4"
x 4 7/8 " and has 24 pages. |
