This set is interesting to me because once again we can see designs from Mah Jongg Sales but the outside of the box and the booklet are distinctly different. The
10-page booklet (or rule version) is written by Robert W. Nevin. The dragon on the front of the booklet appears on the top of the cardboard box. This is still not the high
quality I have seen in some sets. The box layout is a little different, 2 drawers for tiles and a compartment to house the coins and dice.
There are 144 wood tiles, numerous brightly colored pressed cardboard coins. The box is black cardboard on the outside and a bright 'lucky red' on the inside. The coins have a little dragon painted (or stamped) on them with the
denomination. This time the tiles have painted (white) backgrounds making the designs easier to see and the backs of the tiles are painted black, which helps to hide the grain in the wood which could mark the tiles and make them identifiable when face down.
The tiles measure 1 1/4" x 7/8" x 1/2", the designs are embossed (lightly) and painted. The box measures 10 3/4" x 5 3/4" x 2 3/8". The booklet measures
6 1/4" x 3 1/2". |
